GW2 Path of FireDesert Highlands Mastery Insights guide.

This guide is organized so the mastery insights at top of the page require less mount masteries than those at the bottom. Most just require the base springer mount. There are two that requires the springer high vault mastery and two that requires the jackal sand portals mastery.

Video Guide

Timestamps below

Desert Highlands Insight: Kanuz Overlook

Requirement: Raptor Canyon Jumping (Mastery Rank 3)

If you have High Vault you can just jump directly to the top. If you don’t, you can leap to it with Canyon Jumping

Desert Highlands Insight: Makali Outpost

Requirement: Base Springer

You can springer jumping on the building nearby and glide over but it is literally one jump with High Vault.

Desert Highlands Insight: Lifeblood Falls Grub ledge

Requirement: Base Springer

Run up the ramp with your raptor and then canyon jump over. You will see a grub tunnel with a dead end you can jump up using the springer to reach the mastery point.

Desert Highlands Insight: Base of the Watchtower

Requirement: Base Springer

Near the mastery point is a fence you have to jump over with the springer but after that it is straight to the mastery point guarded by some branded.

gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-18 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-19 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-20

Desert Highlands Insight: Sunderlands Crater

Requirement: Base Springer

You need to jump over the fence just west of The Sunderlands with your springer and then the rest of the way can be handled with the raptor. You will need canyon jump for the last bit to reach the mastery insight.

gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-21 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-22 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-23

Desert Highlands Insight: Highjump Rise

Requirement: Base Springer

This is right next to Highjump Ranch waypoint, just use your springer to jump up and reach the mastery.

gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-24 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-25 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-26

Desert Highlands Insight: Derelict Perch

Requirement: Base Springer

Next to the waypoint, use springer to jump up.

gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-29 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-30

Desert Highlands Insight: Standstill Spire

Requirement: Raptor Canyon Jumping (Mastery Rank 3) and Derelict Delve Waypoint unlock (may require Springer)

You can leap to this from the road using the Raptor Canyon jump. If that fails, use springer to jump up.

gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-31 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-32

Desert Highlands Insight: Overreach Spider Nest

Requirement: Gliding or Springer

The mastery insight is inside a chasm you can drop down and glide. Don’t glide down to low as the mastery point is higher than the vista. If you missed it while gliding or can’t glide you can get up using the springer jump.

gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-33 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-35 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-34

Desert Highlands Insight: Giant’s Bough

Requirement: Raptor Canyon Jumping (Mastery Rank 3) and Derelict Delve Waypoint unlock (may require Springer)

While you don’t need springer to reach this mastery insight, unlocking Derelict Delve Waypoint may require springer and getting to the mastery insight from Highranch Jump waypoint requires springer as well. You can head straight east from Derelict Delve Waypoint and take a sharp right turn at the edge of the snowy area to reach this mastery insight.

gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-27 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-28

Desert Highlands Insight: Brightwater Hollow

Requirement: Base Springer

Use springer to jump up there.

gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-39 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-40 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-41

Desert Highlands Insight: Palace of Aban

Requirement: Springer High Vault (Mastery Rank 3)

This may require the Springer high vault ability as I am not sure if the regular springer jump has enough horizontal distance. The entrance to the Palace is on the south side.

gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-38 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-36 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-37

Desert Highlands Insight: Above the Flats

Requirement: Jackal Shifting Sands (Mastery Rank 3)

At the spot marked on the map is a Jackal Sand Portal. Take it to go up to the rocks with the Griffon roost and then you will see another portal a bit up ahead.

gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-7 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-11 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-12

Go through that portal and you will be in the air but no fear as there is a path only your jackal can see. Keep following it, go through another portal and you will land in a structure high above the air with the mastery point.

gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-13 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-14

Desert Highlands Insight: Discarded Vessels

Requirement: Base Skimmer and Jackal Shifting Sands (Mastery Rank 3)

This mastery insight is a bit interesting. It is inside a vase which you can’t reach. Instead, you have to go through the jackal sand portal in another vase to get in. When reaching for the platform before the jackal portal, make sure to press spacebar to raise your skimmer to max height above the water before dismounting to give yourself an extra boost to get on the platform.

Desert Highlands Insight: The Tombs

Requirement: Springer with High Vault and map breaking/griffon.

Map Breaking: It isn’t very hard to map break but it just requires a bit of patience and you have to follow the instructions carefully or you will hit the invisible wall. Because it is a bit complicated to map break, please watch the video.

gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-45 gw2-desert-highlands-mastery-insights-guide-46

Intended Griffon Path: The route is pretty easy if you are using the griffon. Go into the temple and be in the same room as the mastery insight. You will see the statues you need to springer up.

thanks a lot Dulfy for this fast guide.\ btw, someone has given the last hidden achiev in act 3 😀

  • Tenno

The Tomb mastery can be obtained with Springer rank 3 and Griffon rank 0. you can glide from the high point of the northern most snake to the center pillar, then glide one more time to the mastery.

  • Darkye Rhiadra

The map breaking way to get the last insight is much easier. You can start in the room with the insight, jump on one of the snakes, then up on wall, then glide on other room and then break through ceiling. There’s a vid on utube of it. Not much to it anyway. I intend to go back there, now that I have the griffin and see how it works with the intended method 😀

    Thanks for guides!

    • Dulfy

I tried that way, the jumps were pretty unreliable and there are always thing above you that block your jump. Doing it from the outside is much easier IMO.

    • Orzene

      What’s the “intended” route?

      • Darkye Rhiadra

        Using the griffin.

Desert Highlands Insight: Palace of Aban\ I managed to get that Mastery Point without High Vault(rank 3 Springer). You need to jump on the pillars one by one. It’s a bit difficult but doable. Have a nice day!

Desert Highlands Insight: The Tombs no more possible !\ Patch this night !!!!

    • My nane is mine… hands off!

      I got it last night.

      • Karl Heinze

        With Springer by OOB ?

  • Frank Alviani

Unfortunately, the directions for the above the flats MP are inaccurate. You end up on the plateau directly above where you enter, just getting the POI instead. Perhaps this is a bug.

    • Bryce

Her directions are accurate, “…and then you will see another portal a bit up ahead.” You need to run north and jump up a couple of bluffs to get to the next sand portal.

      • Frank Alviani

You are correct. It just wasn’t obvious until I tried a few more times… The bridge is a give away; the screenshot with the rings was crucial.

    • My nane is mine… hands off!

I used the vid and got to the WP

The fact that you have to break out of the map or pay 250g for a mount to get the mastery point is kind of bad. Glad it’s only one.

  • Vindalootoo

sadly, the map break option for the tomb seems to be nerfed. I’ve done it several times with some ease to port friends to the MP, but after half an hour trying on my juniormost account, can’t get to the platform beside the rock for the last jump. Extremely annoying, since I don’t plan to get a griffon for this account. Once I get it on my main, I can bampf, but I don’t like to do that on my own accts. 🙁

The tombs mastery point can be had without having to spend golds on the gryphon mount and without cheesing the map.

Once you finish PoF story line, get yourself started on the path of getting the gryphon mount. It costs nothing, and it opens gryphon roosts in every zone. Gryphon roosts allow you to get free loaner gryphs. Just run up, hop on the nesting gryph, and take off. The catch is it goes away once you dismount and you have to start back from the roost. So all you have to do is get to the tombs without getting dismounted, and bob’s yer monkey.

    • Haitaka

I forgot to mention, you can follow the almost exact same path as you would with springer mount, on the snake body, then the tail, instead of trying to get on top of the head as you would with springer, you have to fly over to the tiny ledge on the wall column at the left side of the snake statue (when looking from the tombs entrance direction). from the tiny ledge you can fly to top of the snake, and everything else is exactly as above.

If you have hard time finding the ledge. In the video above, if you pause it at 28 seconds, just before the character dismounts from their springer, they are facing the very same column, and you can barely see the ledge on the left side of the snake’s head.

Dulfy’s map breaking video doesn’t work anymore as others have said, but here’s an alternative path I just used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aUgaIC4wjg
